“Tell it like a story,” Gretchen Peterson says, “[that’s how] my mother always said when I was rambling, and the advice primed my child’s mind to speak with structure and drama. As an adult, I joined Toastmasters ten years ago where I’ve learned to convey precise information with power, and it’s been a great springboard to jump into storytelling with Portland Storytellers Guild.” Gretchen will tell two stories for this show, one traditional and one personal, both of which, according to Gretchen, “deal with striving to reach goals and the frustrations and obstacles that pepper the journeys.”

This show will also feature Patrick Gannon, host of our monthly first Friday story swaps, who came to storytelling through teaching elementary school. He will also tell a traditional tale and a personal story, the latter of which makes reference to the well-know children’s book Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, and just how close to home it hit his own classroom.

The Portland Storytellers’ Guild has been producing Storytelling Shows in Portland for over 29 years. How long has it been since you’ve heard a well told story? Come and experience for yourself the wonder of letting a story take you into that timeless place where anything is possible. Our tellers may fill a show with original, personal stories (like the MOTH),or they may have a mix of World Folktales, Creation Myths & other Mythic Tales, Tall Tales and Personal Stories all woven into one evening.
